Schizophrenic Love Evaluation

When we began this project, our plan was to make a musical about a man with schizophrenia who falls in love with a girl and the problems they overcome through their lives to try and overcome said schizophrenia. To an extent we followed this up, however the outcome suffered many cutbacks and failures which lead to it in total being a complete mess that is at best a mediocre short film. I will first start with the strengths of the project (as there weren't too many). The concept itself, albeit very ambitious, seemed quite strong and compelling. The abnormal boy trying to get along in a normal reality which hates him for who he is seems to practically write itself with character interactions being able to be very realistic despite this not working as all but one dialogue interaction was cut and the one that made the final cut was mid-song and so rushed that the characters have no chemistry together which was the exact opposite of the intent. Editing and Producing scene 3

So the next scene I decided to do is scene 3. I had originally planned for this scene to be in a black unknown location however I realised that a lot of my film is going to be in the dark at that point which is difficult to shoot to a decent quality. It also means that I won't have much variation in where the film is shot. Because of this, I decided to shoot scene 3 around the local area. Area itself wasn't important as longs it took place outside and is gave me enough footage on a big enough scale to show  a change in location (as though the dream is shifting and changing) and i was able to create a dream-like environment during shooting. During editing, I decided to use different colours. I wanted to create a dream-like atmosphere but also have some separation between each segment of the dream so that it is evident that it is a dream whilst also giving the scene the abnormality and stylising to be effective. Editing and producing scene 1

Currently I am in the process of editing scene 1. Im making sure to edit and produce this scene first because if this scene ends up failing, chances are the whole concept will fail and I will have to re-conceptualise my film. During editing, I noticed that my film footage has a lot of noise due to the inside setting. I thought at first this would make the film look poor but with more consideration I have decided to fully use the grain as an asset rather than as a liability to my footage and further distort the footage. This gives a very odd, upsetting feeling to the footage. I also decided to use the build up of non-diegetic audio with animalistic audio and a very eerie tune to create a not especially terrifying atmosphere but certainly an unsettling one to creep out spectators.   I have also decided to speed up and distort the footage at certain parts to give the video a 'jumpy' sort of feel as though the footage is damaged or being distorted.
